Francis Marion was a landowner from South Carolina who, although not technically a part of the Continental Army, worked with various units of that army to harass the British army led by Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton and Loyalist forces in the South. Employing guerilla tactics, Marion would strike at Tarleton's forces and then disappear into the forests before striking again. Working with the cavalry commanded by Henry "Light-Horse Harry" Lee, the Swamp Fox attackes supply depots and isolated outposts, disrupting the British plans for control of the Carolinas.
