| This item is a ladle. I was unsure whether to include it in this gallery of kitchen items or in the gallery of 'pre-historic' artifacts. It is undoubtedly an antique; its age apparent from the rich patina it has acquired over the years. And its style is abstract and animalistic, such as was popular among the 'proto-historic' indigenous Indian cultures of Central and South America. But the item does not have a provenance that would pinpoint its place or date of origin. Notice the fact that the design is created almost entirely by inlaid pieces of round wire along with a few small pieces of ivory. |
