The Squat Wine bottle got its name from its distinctive shape; it appears to be squatting with its large bulbous base with a thin, tapered neck. It is also sometimes refered to as an onion bottle, again because of its shape. |
These squat wine bottles were produced by hand and the image below shows the pontil mark left by the glassblower. The image above shows a thin piece of glass wrapped around the mouth of the bottle to form a "lip". |
