Elizabeth was born circa 1788 at Crosshill, Kirkmichael, Ayrshire, Scotland. Elizabeth was a daughter of John Dalziel and Helen Kirker. William and Elizabeth took up residence at Kirkmichael and gave birth to seven children: John, born 1816; Mary, born 03 December, 1817; William Jr., born 17 October, 1819; Thomas, born 1821; Benjamin, born 1824; Joseph, born 28 February, 1826; and Elizabeth, born 1828.
John Muirhead, son of William and Elizabeth Muirhead, was married twice. His first marriage was to Agnes Thompson on 19 April, 1839. The couple gave birth to one son: William, born 24 January, 1840. Agnes died on 20 November, 1892. John next married Agnes Smith on 04 December, 1844. Agnes was a daughter of Robert Smith and Agnes Hunton. She was born circa 1817. This second marriage resulted in the birth of three children. The name of the first, a daughter, is not known. The other two children were sons: Joseph, born 1851; and Robert, born 1854.

The marriage date given in the Muirhead Clan Society database is 02 June, 1886. The couple gave birth to: John, born 1880; Elizabeth, born 1883; and William, born 1885. If the marriage date given in the database is correct, the couple would have had their first two children prior to actually getting married. That is of course possible, but not necessarily probable. More probable would be that the marriage date is incorrect. Helen died on 27 June, 1886. Joseph’s second marriage was to Isabella Mathieson on 08 June, 1865. Isabella was born circa 1865. She was a daughter of Robert Mathieson and Elizabeth Menzies. This couple gave birth to: Agnes, born 1889; Mary, born 1890; and Thomas Mathieson, born 28 April, 1897. Joseph died on 01 October, 1920. Isabella died on 23 December, 1920.

Janet died on 04 February, 1890. William’s second marriage was to Nicholas Cameron on 21 June, 1895 at Glasgow. She was born on 25 March, 1906. William died on 03 March, 1899.

The couple took up residence at Wigtown and gave birth to: Thomas Muirhead, born 15 January, 1870; Thomas, born 23 September, 1876 and died 13 October, 1883; Janet Garvan, born 03 February, 1879; William Muirhead, born 01 May, 1880; Charlotte McDowall, born 05 October, 1883 and died 1914; Emily Maud McLean, born 07 May, 1885; Robert Muirhead, born 04 June, 1887 and died 24 March, 1918; Elizabeth Muirhead, born 23 May, 1889; Hugh Muirhead, born 23 April, 1893; and Mary Muirhead, born 13 August, 1896. Edward died a year after the last child was born, on 21 December, 1897. Elizabeth raised the family herself, eventually dying on 19 November, 1937.

Thomas is believed to have been born circa 1821. His new bride was born circa 1820 at Londonderry, Ireland. She was a daughter of Hamilton Short and Jane Murdoch. The couple gave birth to twelve children: Jane Murdoch, born 06 March, 1845; William, born 26 March, 1847; Hamilton, born 07 January, 1848; Elizabeth, born 27 October, 1850; Mary, born 03 January, 1853; Thomas Jr., born 29 March, 1855; Benjamin, born 17 August, 1857; Catherine, born 18 November, 1859; Janet, born 23 July, 1862; twins, Arthur and John, born 05 September, 1864; and Joseph, born 11 January, 1866. The one twin, John, died unmarried on 29 January, 1865. Catherine died on 17 June, 1870. Thomas died on 14 April, 1898 in the Combination Poorhouse at Maybole, in Ayrshire.
Jane Murdoch Muirhead, daughter of Thomas and Catherine Muirhead, was married twice. Her first marriage was to Samuel Murdoch, a son of James Murdoch and Agnes Cumming. They gave birth to: Mary, born 1865; James, born 1867; Mary Agnes, born 19 November, 1870; William McMaster, born 28 February, 1873; Jeannie, born 1875; Samuel Jr, born 03 July, 1880; and Margaret Elizabeth, born 1882 and died 09 June 1973. The first two children were born at Liverpool, England, while the second two were born at Dalbeattie, in Kircudbrightshire, Scotland. The couple apparently divorced shortly after the birth of the last child. The Muirhead Clan Society database gives Samuel’s death date as 06 March,1917, but Jane married her second husband, James Carlyle, on 24 August, 1884. The second marriage produced no children. Jane died on 20 January, 1914.
William McMaster Murdoch, son of Samuel and Jane Murdoch, was married twice. His first marriage was to Ada Florence Banks. Ada was born on 28 December, 1873 at New Zealand. She died on 21 April, 1941 also at New Zealand. William’s second marriage was to Elizabeth Crogent. Elizabeth had been born at Liverpool, in Lancashire, England. It would appear, that since Ada outlived William, the couple must have divorced prior to the year 1912 when he died, and prior to his second marriage. (The dates given are derived from the Muirhead Clan Society database, and therefore may be in error.) William is noted for being aboard the Titanic when it sank after striking an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean on the night of 15 April, 1912.
