[Note: The Muirhead Clan Society database was altered in 2006, and the family of John Muirhead and Margaret Donaldson, noted below, was moved from this lineage to that of Robert Muirhead and Agnes Wilson. Information was not provided to explain why the change had been made. The information submitted prior to the change was attributed to Robert Muirhead; the information submitted after the change was attributed to the same Robert Muirhead. In view of the fact that the database manager’s stance is that she is not obligated to perform any types of checks on lines, but merely merge in anything that was/is submitted, I assumed that perhaps the change was made in error. I contacted Robert Muirhead, himself, who noted that he and other researchers of the line could not prove the connections without doubt; it had been based somewhat on guesswork. Therefore, I have left this lineage as it was originally submitted in the assumption that, as in so many other cases, Susan Shaw, the Muirhead Clan Society database manager, has simply made another gross error.]

A man by the name of John Muirhead was born circa 1680 in the parish of Bothwell, Lanarkshire.(3.30) He married Grizell Pollock circa 1708 at Bothwell. Grizell was born on 23 September 1672 at Hamilton, Lanarkshire. Grizell was a daughter of Andrew Pollock and Grizell Gordon. The couple gave birth to two children: John, born 07 December 1712; and Grizell, born 26 February 1716.

John Muirhead, son of John and Grizell Muirhead, married Margaret Donaldson on 23 March 1737. Margaret was a daughter of Andrew Donaldson and Marion Anderson. She was born on 14 October 1718 at Govan, in Lanarkshire. The couple gave birth to: Marion, born 19 December 1739; Robert, born 02 August 1742 and died prior to 1748; Andrew, born 08 January 1743; John Jr., born 13 June 1745; Robert, born 22 April 1748; and Agnas, born 22 May 1751.

(Note: The Muirhead Clan Society database gives Agnes’ birthdate as 03 May 1777. Apparently, she was a twin of Andrew Donaldson, and therefore born on 01 May of that year. I’m not sure if it would be possible for the mother to give birth to one twin and not give birth to the other twin for two days. Instead, I would assume that the database’s record is incorrect.)

Anna Campbell, daughter of James and Marion Campbell, married Lockhart Muirhead on 19 June 1804 at Glasgow. Information on this family, and their descendants is included in the chapter titled: Patrick Muirhead.

Robert Muirhead, son of John and Margaret Muirhead, married Elizabeth Weir circa 1780 or 1781. They gave birth to a son: Robert Jr., born 06 March 1781. (Note: The Muirhead Clan Society database gives the parents’ wedding date as 06 March 1781, the same day as the child’s birthdate.I really doubt that a woman would want to walk down the aisle to get married while she is giving birth to a baby. Apparently the database information is incorrect.)

Elizabeth Muirhead, married Agnes Hyslop on 03 January 1804 at Avondale / Cambusnethan, in Lanarkshire. Agnes was born in 1784 at Kirkconnel, the daughter of John Hyslop.
