John Muirhead was born circa 1804 at Lanark, in Lanarkshire.(3.23) He married Mary Neilson (variously, Nelson) on 01 November 1828. Mary was born circa 1808, also at Lanark. They took up residence at Lanark, where they raised a family of seven children: Janet, born 09 August 1829; Robert, born 15 August 1831; George, born 13 July 1833; Jean Hamilton, born 07 June 1835; William, born 26 April 1838; John, born 08 August 1840; and Mary, born 11 September 1842.

    Robert Muirhead, son of John and Mary Muirhead, married Janet Watson in the year 1859 at Lesmahagow, in Lanarkshire. Janet was born at Lesmahagow in 1832. The couple took up residence at Lanark, and gave birth to: John, born 1860, William, born 17 March 1862; Grace, born 1865; Mary, born 1868; Janet, born 1868; Robert, born 1871; and Thomas, born January 1881. All of the children were born at Lanark, except for the last. Thomas was born at Kilbucho, in Peebleshire.

    George Muirhead, son of John and Mary Muirhead, married Marion -----. Marion was born in the year 1849 at Lesmahagow. They gave birth to: Mary, born 1868; John, born 1870; George, born 1872; Marion, born 1874; James, born 1876; Andrew, born 1878; and Janet, born February 1881. Mary was born at Lanark, John at Carnwath, and the rest of the children at Carstairs, in Lanarkshire.

  William Muirhead, son of John and Mary Muirhead, married Janet Lang on 29 December 1864 at Lesmahagow, in Lanarkshire. Janet was born on 30 July 1837, a daughter of James Lang and Agnes Douglas. William and Janet gave birth to: Agnes, born 1865; Mary, born 1867; John, born 1869; Jessie Lang, born 1872; and James, born 1873.

  Jessie Lang Muirhead, daughter of William and Janet Muirhead, married John Cossar on 22 June 1894 at Libberton, in Lanarkshire. John was born on 22 December 1871 at Walston, in Lanarkshire. He was a son of James Cossar and Janet Murdoch. John and Jessie gave birth to: Janet Lang Murdoch Muirhead, born 28 July 1894; James, born 01 February 1896; Isabella, born 01 November 1898; and William Muirhead, born 1901. John died on 08 February 1931 at Glasgow. Jessie died on 12 December 1954 at Glasgow.

  Janet Lang Murdoch Muirhead Coossar, daughter of John and Jessie Cossar, never married. She was the only one to use the variant spelling of the name. Janet died on 21 February 1957 at Glasgow.

  James Cossar, son of John and Jessie Cossar, married Catherine Durie Monro. Catherine was born circa 1897, a daughter of John Monro and Martha Stewart. James died after February 1931. Catherine died in 1991.

  Isabella Cossar, daughter of John and Jessie Cossar did not marry. She died on 21 January 1990 at Glasgow.

    William Muirhead Cossar, son of John and Jessie Cossar, married Jean Maxwell Thomson on 28 July 1927 at Kirtlebridge, in Dumfrieshire. Jean was born circa 1902, the daughter of Thoams Thomson and Sarah Carter. They gave birth to one son.
