A man by the name of John Muirhead made a living as a solicitor in the city of Glasgow.(
Note: According to the Reverend Allen Stewart Hartigan, in his book, The Family Of Pollock Of Newry And Descendants, John and Mary Muirhead had a fourth child whose name was given as Samuel Pollock. In the absence of birthdates for the other children, it is difficult to know whether this was an error, or whether Mary gave birth to this child prior to her marriage to John Muirhead. The information on this child, and his descendants is included here as presented in the Reverend Hartigan’s book.
Jamesa Muirhead, daughter of John and Mary Muirhead, married the Reverend Charles M. Grant, of St. Marks, Dundee.
Samuel Pollock, son of John and Mary Muirhead, was born on 25 August, 1788. He was married twice. His first wife was Katherine Jane Williamson, a daughter of the Reverend Thomas Daly Williamson. Katherine was born on 28 November, 1797. The couple gave birth to: Anna Elizabeth, born 01 January, 1814 and died 28 December, 1884; -----; Samia; William Paul, born 16 November, 1820; James Samuel, born 16 March, 1834; Thomas Benson, born 28 May, 1836; and Katherine Jane, born 29 July, 1840 and died 16 September, 1853. Katherine died on 08 June, 1848. Samuel’s second wife was Sarah Whitley, a daughter of Charles Whitley. Samuel and his family initially settled at Farm Hill, near Drogheda. They later moved to the Isle of Man, taking up residence at Strathallan House. Samuel served as a Justice of the Peace for some years. He also served in the 43rd Light Infantry, attaining the rank of Major. At Conchan, on the Isle of Man, Samuel served as the “Captain of the Parish.” Samuel died on 06 November, 1865 and was buried at Conchan, on the Isle of Man.
Samia Pollock, daughter of Samuel and Katherine Pollock, married James Muirhead.
William Paul Pollock, son of Samuel and Katherine Pollock, married Catherine Jane Pollock on 04 August, 1852 at London. The couple gave birth to one son: Arthur Williamson Alsager, born 03 July, 1853. William served as a Major in the Royal Airforce. He died on 13 April, 1863.
Arthur Williamson Alsager Pollock, son of William and Catherine Pollock, married Edith Laura Radcliffe on 07 July, 1881. Edith was born on 14 October, 1853, a daughter of Copleston Lopes Radcliffe and Elilzabeth Charlotte Colmore. They gave birth to: John Alsager, born 03 April, 1882; Mary Catherine Alsager, born 24 November, 1883; and Edith Margaret Constance, born 12 July, 1887. Arthur served as a Major in the 13th Prince Albert Light Infantry, and saw action in South Africa between 1876-79. He participated in the Sekukuni and the Zulu campaigns. He also served in the Boer War of 1899-1901 as a war correspondent for the ‘Times’. Arthur was the author of a book, With Seven Generals In The Boer War.
James Samuel Pollock, son of Samuel and Katherine Pollock, never married. He took up the profession of preacher, and died on 22 December, 1895.
Thomas Benson Pollock, son of Samuel and Katherine Pollock, never married. He also took up the profession of preacher, and served as curate to his brother, James. The two preachers were well known in the Church of England for their work in the slums of Birmingham and were affectionately known as the “Brothers Pollock.” Thomas died on 15 December, 1896.
