Most historical sites and museums are not directly devoted to providing research facilities and materials to historians and genealogists. Although the historical sites and museums provide their visitors with information of a historical nature, their primary business tends to be to make money. Also, very seldom do historical sites and museums provide anything akin to genealogy. In spite of the commercial aspect of the museum business, you can’t help but gain knowledge from visiting an historical site or museum. And unlike reading about an historical event in a book, visiting an histori-cal site or museum will often provide a more immediately understood grasp of the event or time period.
The following list includes most of the historical sites and museums to be found in the Old~Bedford County region. You might notices that some of the sites listed here might have already been noted in the foregoing discussion of historical societies. In some cases the historical society maintains a museum as part of its program.
