Continental Union
     Flown On The Lexington

The brigantine Lexington sailed from the port of Baltimore to Europe in 1777. After being detained by the French government at the port of Morlaix, the Lexington set sail, only to be confronted by the British ship, Ariel. A fight ensued and the Lexington broke free, only to be chased by the Ariel and eventually captured.

The Continental Union flag which was flown on the Lexington in September 1777 was similar to the Continental Union flag exhibited in the previous page with the exception that the stripes were colored red, white and blue repeating top to bottom with a red stripe on the bottom.
